Trades Internship
The Opportunity
Join us for our pilot trades skills program. We need 5 host businesses and 5 young people between the ages of 18 - 24 to participate in a trades skills program.
This will be a 13 week program. During the program interns will learn and take their NCCER Basic Skills Certificate which gives you a industry recognised credential that you can use to get a job as a labourer on any construction site straight away.
Modules included in the NCCER Core: Introduction to Basic Construction Skills Certificate are:
Build Your Future in Construction
Basic Safety
Introduction to Construction Math
Introduction to Hand Tools
Introduction to Power Tools
Introduction to Construction Drawing
Basic Communication skills
Basic Employability Skills
Introduction to Materials Handling.
Interns will spend 2 days a week in a classroom based setting honing their skills and 3 days a week on an actual construction site, observing their mentor and contributing to the project.
Interns will receive a stipend for their work and health insurance.

Join the internship as hosts and mentors to one Intern. The Host Business teaches the intern the essential skills and behaviours expected on construction sites and exposes them to a new industry and different career possibilities while mentoring the intern.

13 Week Internship
During the 13 weeks. youth interns experience 2 days a week of NCCER Basic Construction Skills Training and professional development activities as well as 3 days of work at their respective host businesses.
How the internship works
As an intern, you will work through Basic Construction Skills including construction site safety, construction math and using power tools. You will then practice these your host-organization while being guided by the Urban Construction Services team. You will also have a 1-on-1 coaching session with a member of the SkillCraft team every other week to support you in your personal and professional goals.
As a Host-Business, your SkillCraft intern will work in your business for 13 weeks and develop their trades skills and safety practices. You will be supported in managing and developing the workplace habits and behaviours of the intern.
